FIAYC (Fifi's International African Youth Club)

We provide a place for all local young people where they meet and socialise so that they do not feel isolated, as well as giving African young people a chance to expore their own culture and others. We enable inter-cultural learning by bringing young people from different backgrounds together to learn new skills and experiences together. This improves understanding and aids integration and improves social cohesion in the local community as the children and young people become mentors for their friends and teachers to the parents. JET - Jobs Education and Training

JET provides specialist support and employment advice for people from ethnic minority communities including refugees, asylum seekers, EU migrants on benefits and the settled community. Clients have their own Personal Advisor who will help them in accessing employment, training, work placements, volunteering opportunities and integration in the UK. There is also a smaller package of support for those from outside Newcastle, via our National Careers Service contract and our Ladies Integration Programme. JET have a full IT suite and can sometimes offer IT support for our customers. Training is very much bespoke to meet the needs of the clients. Only half of our clients have English as a Second Language many are native speakers and we also provide all the employment support for Newcastle City Learning in their three sites across the City.

West End Refugee Service

WERS has been supporting asylum seekers and refugees living in the west end of Newcastle upon Tyne for 15 years. It focuses on delivering services not provided by the statutory sector, and is ready to respond to clients' changing needs by developing new services. WERS has adopted a way of working which combined an informal, friendly and welcoming approach, which helps clients to feel safe and relaxed, with detailed strategic planning underpinned by robust procedures and policies. Services include, drop-in advice sessions, home visits, befriending, Time to Talk listening service, job mentoring, clothing store and hardship fund. WERS also has an awareness-raising, education and training programme.
